Fashion clusters

The Greater Venice Area (Veneto Region) is one of the most important Area in Italy of indutrial production of

clothing, leather, footwear, eyewear.

Over 10000 Industrial and Craft Enterprises are active here, 25% of which are Limited companies.

In 2012, the value of exports of this Area was over 11 billion euros, while the positive value of the Balance of Trade was almost 4.2 billion euros.

Some of the world fashion top level brands originate in this area, among which Valentino, Bottega Veneta, Benetton, Stefanel, Moncler, Cerruti 1881, Marina Yachting, Geox, Marzotto, Diesel and many others, as well as hundreds of second level brands.

Clothing and textiles clusters

Clothing and textiles sector has in Veneto one of its main manufactoring industry: the system accounts for 8,000 firms employing 60,000 personnel, with a turnover of nearly €5 billion. The quality of tailored clothing is renowned worldwide, to such an extent that exports in this field represent 11% of global regional exports and 15% of Italy's national exports in this sector. The supply chain of the textile area winds through production and outsourcing firms, equipment, materials and service suppliers.

Footweare clusters

The footwear production is specialized in the manufacture of luxury shoes and sports shoes.

The shoemaking tradition has more than 700 years, the establishment of a Brotherhood of Shoemakers ("Calegheri") in Venice dates back to 1268.

Companies in the supply chain of luxury are about a thousand, employ more than 20,000 people and produce more than 55 million pairs of shoes a year, for brands at international level, especially for female customers.

Most of them are located near Venice, along the Brenta River.

Companies in the sport system are more than 400, with more than 8000 employees and a total production of 1.5 billion euros.

Those companies are located all around the Area of the City of Treviso, north of Venice.

Leather district

 

The tradition of leather tanning was born during 1700 in the village of Arzignano, near Vicenza, but only after the Second World War, the industrial district begins to develop; in 2012, it is composed of 850 companies employing over 11,000 employees.

The district is famous for the high quality of the leather, due to its integration with the supply chain of the "Made in Italy" and its integration with the District of Mechatronics, which has contributed significantly to the development of process innovation.

In addition to the quality of the leather, the Enterprises in the district have also invested heavily in technologies for water purification and for heat recovery, so as to minimize the environmental impact.

Eyewear district

The history of the industrial district for eye-wear in Belluno has almost legendary roots. In fact, 1285 is the ascertained date for the existence of a Venetian glass manufacturer who produced "vitreos ab oculis ad legendum" - reading glasses.

From that date to this, all the area of the Province of Belluno has witnessed a steady industrial growth with regard to the production of glasses.

This district produces all that concerns the world of glasses: frames, sunglasses, small components, machinery and equipment for production, electroplating treatments, glass cases and lens. These are the figures for the district: four large firms of world size; 170 medium-sized industrial firms with more than 13.500 employees (94% of which are firms with less than 100 employees); 650 artisan firms with around 1.700 employees; sales exceeding 2 billion euro, constituting 85 percent of Italian production, accounting for more than 80 percent on international markets. The leading sales markets are Europe, with exports of 42 percent, and North America, with 41.6 percent of exports.
