High quality wines are marked as "DOCG", "DOC" and "IGT"

• DOCG (acronyms for Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin) wines are 14
• DOC (acronyms for Controlled Denomination of Origin) wines are 28
• IGT (acronyms for Typical Geographical Indication) wines are 10

According to EU rules, DOCG and DOC wines are marked as PDO (Protected Designation of Origin), while IGT wines are marked as IGP (Protected Geographical Indication).

PDO e PGI wines are included in the EU wine Registry "E-Bacchus".

The complying wines with the rules of production of PDO or PGI, can be identified by the same Community symbols or logos required for the indications of origin for agricultural products and foodstuffs:

The acronyms DOCG, DOC and IGT can be used on the label alone or with the European acronyms PDO or PGI.

In Veneto Region, Almost 74,000 hectares are didcated to grape production for wine, average production of Wine (2007-2011) is 8,231,000 hectoliters.

To protect the high quality wine from counterfeiting, to the DOC and DOCG wines bottles is applied a State label, as a seal along two sides of the neck including the stopper or as a collar around the neck.
