SIMAGE

The Programme Agreement on Chemistry of Porto Marghera, signed in 1998, laid the foundation for the realization of SIMAGE, the Integrated System for Environmental Monitoring and Emergency Management in relation to the risks of the industrial area of Venice.

The implementation of the SIMAGE was made possible by the Veneto Region, that has promoted and fully funded it.

The purpose of SIMAGE is to ensure an effective flow of information during Emergencies and to provide technical support to the Public Decision-makers (Prefect, the Mayor, ...), in order to reduce response times and communication to the Population.

    The SIMAGE consists of:
  • a h24 operations center (two experienced officers are constantly present, with knowledge of industrial processes of the industrial Area);
  • systems of internal and external communication;
  • a network of instruments for continuous measurement and "on demand" sampling.

In the event of an alarm, the operations center of SIMAGE is activated, gathering information about the emergency, constantly interfacing with the staff of the Companies in the industrial Area, the Fire Department and other involved Agencies, in order to provide technical support useful the public decision-makers.

Moreover, the operations center alerts the Quick Response Officer, which organizes the exit "on the field" of the operating team to monitor the environment outside of the "red zone" (of competence of the Fire Brigade).

If necessary, Population will be allerted by the acustic system (with different sounds depending on the type of risk)
